Cisco Leap Module: Everything You Need To Know!
What is Cisco Leap Module?
In simple language, CISCO MODULE is a group of programs made by CISCO that works on our computers or laptops when we use CISCO routers, etc. If we talk about what is a module then in simple word module is a small software program that is implemented to perform some specific tasks. CISCO is a mobile networking company.
There are three parts of this module, there are as follows:-
- EAP-FAST = Extensible Authentication Protocol-Flexible Authentication via Secure Tunnelling
- PEAP = Protected Extensible Authentication Protocol
- LEAP = Lightweight Extensible Authentication Protocol
Cisco Leap module has an authentication type of 802.1X for wireless LANs (WLANs) which is capable of supporting strong authentication between client and radius servers by using a secret shared logic password. It can be installed on Windows XP/Vista/7/8/10 running on PC or laptop.
With the help of the 802.1X framework CISCO LEAP module works. CISCO was the pioneer in introducing Extensible Authentication Protocol (EAP) support for WLANs at a time when none of the existing client operating systems provided EAP support. To enhance the overall security of WLAN authentication CISCO systems introduced CISCO LEAP in December 2000.
Why Cisco Leap is Needed?
They are used in:
- Network connections within a campus area.
- Outdoor infrastructure for mobile networks and users.
- Public access for outdoor areas.
- Temporary networks for portable or military operations.
Is it necessary to remove CISCO LEAP modules?
If you have ever connected to a domain network then it is advisable not to remove these programs but if you have never used a domain network ever or you have never used a CISCO product, you can go ahead and uninstall the modules, it will not create any issue for you people.
Please follow these steps to delete these programs:
Step 1: Open control panel from your desktop
Step 2: select PROGRAMS -> Uninstall a program
Step 3: Find the programs Cisco EAP-FAST Module, Cisco LEAP Module, and the Cisco PEAP Module.
Step 4: Right-click on each program and click on Uninstall.
Step 5: Restart the computer and check if they have completely removed.
But it might happen to us that we accidentally remove any of this module before having any prior information about them. Worry not guys! It won’t cause any issue with your computer as CISCO LEAP or CISCO PEAP is a Wi-Fi extensible protocol which was widely used in previous days but it is obsoleted nowadays expect some companies or educational institutes. Well if you need them, you can again re-install them by simply re-installing the Wi-Fi software of our computer.
Before starting with the installation of the Cisco LEAP module on your PC, ensure that your Windows is updated. If not, then follow the below-mentioned steps.
Step 1: Open properties from My Computer icon.
Step 2: Select Advanced system settings.
Step 3: A window will appear, select the Hardware button.
Step 4: Now, select the Windows Update Driver Settings.
Step 5: Now click on the “Check for drivers automatically” option.
Once you finish installing the software, follow the steps below to check whether it is correctly installed or not
Step 1: Open control panel from your desktop
Step 2: Select Hardware & Sound
Step 3: Search for “Device and printers” and select DEVICE MANAGER as sub-options under Device and printer
Step 4: A drop-down list will appear to search and select SYSTEM DEVICES.
Step 5: Upon doing so you will come across another dropdown, list search for “ECP BUS” and “ECP NODE” if these two modules are there then the installation is successful.
If not then don’t panic just try to restart your computer and reinstall.
