1. Disable Windows Defender

Follow the steps below to do so:
  • Open your Windows Desktop. Go to Start and then select the Settings option.
  • Then select the Update and Security option from the list of options displayed.
  • Next click on the Windows Security option from the panel on the left.
  • Then choose the first option Virus and Threat.
  • Click on Manage Settings.
  • Now put the Turn on Real-time protection toggle OFF.
  • Now try installing the Discord update now.
 NOTE – Do not forget to turn ON the toggle for Real-time protection back after the update is installed effectively. 

2. Disable Firewall

Follow the steps below to do so:
  • Go to Start and search for Firewall in the search bar and Open it.
  • Now on the left panel click on Turn Windows Defender Firewall on or off.
  • Now make sure to uncheck Block all incoming connection under both Public network settings and Private network settings.
  • Click on Ok. Try updating Discord now.

If in case the problem still exists then repeat all the steps but now this time disable the firewall entirely. If the problem is still not solved then don’t be disappointed to try the fixes given below.

3. Run Discord as Administrator

Running Discord as an administrator can help fix your Discord Update Fail Issue.

Follow the steps below to do so:
  • Open your Desktop. Make sure you have a Discord application shortcut present on your screen.
  • Right-click on the Discord application. Then select the option “Properties”.
  • A popup window will open. Click on the “Compatibility” tab.
  • Then check the box of “Run this program as an administrator”. Then click on “OK”.
  • Start Discord again and check if you are able to update Discord now.

4. Delete LocalAppData

Follow the steps below to do so:
  • Click on the Start menu and search for Run or press Windows key + R simultaneously on your keyboard to open the Run window.
  • Once the run window is open type “%loacalappdata%” in the dialogue box and then click on “OK”.
  • Now find “Discord” among the list of files and then right-click on it.
  • Now from the drop-down menu click on the delete option. Now relaunch Discord to see if your issue is resolved.

5. Remove any Malware or Virus

At times there is a possibility that the discord files might have got corrupted due to malware hence it is necessary to install good malware or antivirus software to avoid such kinds of issues.

If you do not have malware or antivirus software download it via the internet and then scan the PC or Laptop to know if there are any viruses or malware.

If you already have malware or antivirus software then perform a scan on the PC or Laptop and check if there are any malware or virus and remove it immediately. Then restart discord and check if the issue is resolved.

Every Antivirus or Malware software is different from each other hence they might have different settings too. So, go through the instructions of your software properly and then only perform the steps accordingly.

6.Uninstall and Reinstall Discord

If nothing is working even after trying all the above fixes given then it is advised to uninstall the Discord application safely from your PC or Laptop. To reinstall the Discord application again go to the official website of Discord and download their latest and updated version of the application from there.

Do not install the application from any other website as it is not safe and may not be authentic.

Steps to UnInstall Discord:
  • Open your desktop. Go to the Start menu and search for “Run” or on your keyboard click Windows + R together. This will open the RUN window.
  • To open Control Panel. Type “Control” and then press “Enter” on the keyboard or click on “Ok”.
  • Choose to view the Control Panel by “Category”. Then Click on “Uninstall a Program”.
  • A list of different programs available on your PC will appear. Double Click on the Discord application to uninstall it.
  • Now Restart or reboot your PC or Laptop.
Steps to Install Discord:
  • Install the Discord application from the official website on your PC. Make sure to install the updated version of Discord.
  • After installation, open Discord and fill in your account details.

Check if your issue is resolved.

7. Reboot your PC

Rebooting your PC might fix your Discord update fail problem. This can help in getting rid of any glitches or errors in Discord or even your PC.
