Google is leaving no stone unturned to take stand against the circulation of fake news on various online platforms. Google has recently launched a programme called NEW INITIATIVE, which will fight against the trenchant journalism. The Online search engine giant is planning to spread this initiative worldwide.

“There are three specific goals of the Google News Initiative: highlight accurate journalism while fighting misinformation, particularly during breaking news events; help news sites continue to grow from a business perspective and create new tools to help journalists do their jobs. Google is serious about supporting these goals, too, pledging to invest $300 million over the next three years” reads a Blog post.

Google aims at curbing fake news during breaking news events like elections, fake conspiracy theories which circulate on YouTube, and fake shooting news. Google will only support “verified news sources” now.

The commitments we are making through the Google News Initiative demonstrates that news and quality journalism is a top priority for Google,” reads a Blog post by Philipp Schindler, chief business officer.

Google is all set to improve its algorithms to promote authoritative sources of news. It will be interesting to know the extent to which Google gets success to Fight fake news and support healthy journalism.
