According to a blog post by Google on 13th July, this upcoming feature will filter out spam calls and forward them to voicemail instead of your phone. You will not be notified about the voicemails either. However, you can check your filtered calls and voicemail messages whenever you wish.

This is how you can activate Caller ID:

Google provides the Caller ID feature and protection by spam calls by default. You can turn it ON or OFF as per your will. Your phone might send data about your call records to Google to activate these features. Here is how you can activate the Caller ID:

    1. The first thing that you need to do is to open the Phone app on your device.
    2. Then you have to click on ‘More Settings.’
    3. Click on the Caller ID & spam.
    4. Either Turn on or off the Caller ID & spam.

If you don’t want your phone to ring when you get a spam call, you can turn on the Filter suspected spam calls. You can filter calls in your call records but won’t get any notification or missed call. You can also check any voicemail received from that number.

Your phone screen will turn entirely red when you receive any spam calls. This how the Phone app will indicate that you should not receive this call. Moreover, your activities on your cell phone will not be interrupted by spam calls.

It is indeed a good step by Google to protect consumers from spam calls.
