How To Keep Your WhatsApp Chats Private and Secure

Our lives are becoming increasingly dependent on privacy as we live in a technologically advanced world. But it is precisely this technology that puts our data in danger by making it visible online and offline, accessible to just about anyone.

Due to this, it is wise to use extreme caution today. Particularly in our Whatsapp chats, when we communicate with our friends, family, partners, and coworkers about any topic, we frequently do so without thinking about the potential consequences of what we write, which can include embarrassment, problems, arguments, and even drama and a possibility of losing your job.

It’s also important to be aware that hacking Whatsapp nowadays is easier than ever, and as you can read at EarthWeb, it can be done by simply using a phone number or Google Chrome. Hackers can rely on this method to gain access to your conversations.

One option to secure our chats, though, is to make them invisible. By doing this, no one will ever be able to view them, even if they find our phones unattended. But how does it work? It is nothing complicated, actually; all that’s required is that you adhere to just a few very basic tips.

    Tip #1

Locking our smartphone is the first and simplest technique to protect our Whatsapp conversations. We must be the only ones who know the code that unlocks the screen. By doing this, we can be certain that no one will be able to read what we have written, even if the smartphone ends up in the wrong hands.

Another, much more secure option is to lock the screen using a fingerprint rather than a code. The smartphone can only be accessed by persons who have that fingerprint (or several fingerprints; you can choose more than one). It’s extremely easy to do this: just go to settings, profile (or “account”), privacy, and choose “lock with fingerprint” from the selection.

    Tip #2

Installing an antivirus program is another excellent suggestion if we suspect someone would be interested in getting into our smartphone (whether it’s through WhatsApp conversations or not, it doesn’t matter).

Even though we now discover identical systems already pre-installed in the phone, it is possible that the difference is not that great. Usually, this can assist us in promptly identifying any breaches.

    Tip #3

Turn off cloud backups. Although end-to-end encryption provides us with some sort of security, it should be noted that it is excellent, there is a flaw: the backup is not encrypted.

In light of this, you should disable it if you value your privacy. Keep in mind that using Apple and Google to store your data may not completely protect you from being spied on or from a possible attack.

    Tip #4

Another effective way to protect your WhatsApp chats is with the help of a two-factor authentication service. On WhatsApp, two-step verification can now be enabled. The two-step verification is now available to all 1.2 billion WhatsApp users worldwide. And we urge everyone to activate it as soon as possible.

    How can you do that?

Go to Menu > Settings > Account > Two-Step Verification > Enable to turn on 2FA.

Create a six-digit PIN code by following the instructions to make it simple for you to remember. Important: Include your email address so you can recover the code if you lose it.

The passcode is not the same as the password that locks the conversation because the periodic checks for it are random. But 2FA isn’t really meant for that. The intention is to stop someone from using your WhatsApp account without your permission. It is undoubtedly one of WhatsApp’s best new features.

    Tip #5

Here’s the final advice to stop someone from reading our WhatsApp conversations. The only piece of advice that is 100% certain to work is to always delete conversations that you think would be incriminating if they were made public. Both individual messages and group chats can be handled in this way. In such a situation, no one will be able to access what we have said or written.

    Final Points to Remember

You should note that our chats, videos, and photographs are secure thanks to WhatsApp’s use of end-to-end encryption technology. Unfortunately, it isn’t completely foolproof.

We advise you to adhere to these suggestions to increase its security:

    • Limit the privacy settings on WhatsApp.
    • Activate security alerts.
    • Log out of WhatsApp Web.
    • Use a VPN.

These instructions are simple to follow and take only a few minutes to complete.
