Samsung Unveils A Rugged Tablet For Rs.50,990. Enhanced For Rough Users

Unlike Apple, where they price Tabs at a premium which covers brand value and some hidden features, Samsung shows off some real feel-able uses for such price tag.

Yesterday, Samsung announced its second device in the Active Tablet series named “Samsung Active Tab 2“.

Upon announcement, Sukesh Jain, Samsung India’s Senior Vice President of IT & Mobile Enterprise said “Armed with innovative capabilities, our devices are robust, dependable and purpose-built to fit their specific needs of on-site operations. The Samsung Galaxy Tab Active 2 addresses many rugged demands and provides a sturdy device that is easy to manage from an IT perspective, and deliver features and accessories specifically designed to improve mobile workflows beyond the scope of typical office use.”

Samsung says it’s especially for field professionals who engage in tough jobs of their daily works. Survey makers, Travellers, Hard laborers, and military personnel could be the target market.

The Tab’s covered with military grade rugged case to protect it from tough hits.  Along with “S Pen” coming with Tablet, which is specially designed for working with it, there’s Glove Mode” to operate the Tablet in gloves.

Active Tab 2 has a Defence grade Knox security within which makes it hard for hackers to penetrate into Tab’s data. Along with facial recognition, it has biometric authentication for access.

Coming to durability, it’s IP68 rated device which can handle in water (1.5m – 30mins), accidental shocks and extreme temperatures (-15°C to 80°C).

Being such durable, Samsung expects an increased product life cycle for Active Tab 2 which is more than three years including one tough year of usage.

General Specifications:

It sports an 8″ TFT (1280×800) display which is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. It is processed by Exynos CPU and has 3GB RAM and 16GB ROM. Memory can be expanded to 256GB with MicroSD. Cameras of rear and front include an 8MP and 5MP, with connectivity options like WiFi, Bluetooth 4.2, LTE, NFC, and USB Type-C. Finally, there’s a 4450mAh battery under the hood to power it up.
