Nowadays, a huge amount of Malware build apps is been developed and posted out in the Google Play Store! Although, Google is working on it and is been taking serious action over these kinds of Apps which comes in with few compounds of Malware!

In the year 2020, the malware continues to be a massive problem for the consumers to trust on Google products! Although Google doesn’t release these apps even then these kinds of activities are making a severe trust issue for consumers over Google only!

On this Tuesday, some of the major initiatives were taken by Google to make the world of internet a safer place for users.

In a post, from the official Twitter handle from Android Developers, the company said that Google is not only working for strengthening its policies but also they are trying to provide a better way to protect kids and families. Google is also trying to continue to improve its developer approval process to filter out bad apps before they even have the chance to be listed on the Play Store.

One of the biggest initiatives from the company was taken by the formation of an umbrella organization which is also called as “the App Defense Alliance”

This organization said that they will work towards stopping “bad apps before they reach users devices”

The Tech giant Google has come up with a collaboration with ESET, the alliance’s most prioritized goal would be to ensure the safety of the Play Store from harmful applications and stopping them from being published and used by consumers!

The alliance seems to be working in a better-improved perspective as Google said they have come with an aspect called

“Improved vetting mechanisms”

This mechanism helped to stop over 790,000 policy-violating app submissions before they were actually published on the Play Store.

Malware Security- What is Google aiming for?

Google’s main initiative is to block third-party apps from unnecessarily “accessing privacy-sensitive data like SMS and Call Log data also apparently had the desired effect, with a 98% decrease in apps accessing SMS and Call Log data”

“The remaining 2% is comprised of apps that require SMS and Call Log data to perform their core function”

Another system which is working in a better way is Google Play Protect, This service is only established for all-time malware protection, and this service was announced by Google back in 2017.

This service by default built into the official Play Store app and also this service is enabled by default on all Android devices. As per reports from Google, Google’s Play Protect Service has blocked over more than 1.9 billion malicious app installs last year from non-Google sources, including third-party app stores.

The number of blocks has significantly increased to 1.6 Billion, This report was given by Google, and the company reported this huge number of blocks was done in the previous two years.

With all that, Google has also claimed that they are using state-of-the-art machine learning software to prevent malware and stop fake reviews on the Play Store, both of which continue to remain a major headache.

According to Google, “They have enhanced the help of machine learning detection systems analyzing an app’s code, metadata, and user engagement signals for any suspicious content or behaviours, as well as scaling the number and the depth of manual reviews”
