All been set, now, WhatsApp is officialized to have dealt with all the data leak issues, which was a huge drawback for WhatsApp for rolling out this payment service widely in the country.

WhatsApp was featured on with multiple reports over the past few months, which was more about the imminent launch of WhatsApp Pay in India.

Now, WhatsApp finally got a green signal from the National Payments Corporation of India and they approved the launch of WhatsApp Pay in a phased manner.

According to a recent Business Standard report, WhatsApp Pay will be first availed in 10 million users in India during the release.

It is said that WhatsApp conducted a pilot test for “WhatsApp Payment service” with 1 million user capacity back in 2018.

WhatsApp Pay – How did WhatApp overcome their data leak controversies?

This news could be good hear but you surely be thinking about how the data localization issue got solved all of a sudden? Right? Things got solved as WhatsApp themselves agreed to comply with the data localization regulations set by the Indian government.

As per rules from Government of India:

“If WhatsApp is able to fulfil the compliance requirements, the messaging platform will be able to do a full roll-out,” sources told Business Standard.

With over a huge capacity over 400 million users, WhatsApp does has a significant market share in the country and this approach could be loved by powerful players in the UPI-based payment users and WhatsApp Pay may also be a huge competitor for Google Pay, Amazon Pay, PhonePe, and Paytm.

In addition, WhatsApp will be expanding its payments service to several countries, where the service isn’t yet available in the next six months.
