According to a WebKit code, Apple iPhone 5S could get an update to iOS 12 in 2018. WebKit is a browser engine used by Safari.

It was very unlikely that a phone like iPhone 5S could get an update to iOS 12. The iOS 12 is Apple’s upcoming iOS update. Talking about last year, iPhone 5S didn’t get any major update, while other devices were updated to iOS 11. It has been reported that iPhone 5S is going to be the cut-off model, and iPhone 6 and later devices will get an update on iOS 12.

It has been sighted in the WebKit source code that it is possible for iOS 12 to run on iPhone 5S, at least in testing. This source code was spotted by MacGeneration, a French blog, that particularly suggests that “iPhone 5S running iOS 12”. This simply means that 5 years old Apple iPhone 5S could run on latest iOS version for another year.

Apple might unveil its new iOS update, iOS 12 at the Worldwide Developer Conference that is supposed to be held in June this year. All iPhone applications can run on macOS with the help of this iOS update.

However, there are mixed speculations coming from the company. According to Tim Cook, Apple has no plans to merge Android and iOS.

Well, it is not necessary that iPhone 5S will definitely get an update, but we can just hope these speculations to be true.
